Does your child have a food allergy?
If so, please review the following...
Food allergies can be a very difficult to cope with, especially in a school setting. Here at Brookwood, we strive to make our school a safe place for children with food allergies.
If your child has an allergy, please make their teacher and the school nurse (Me!) aware of the food/allergen and the severity of the allergy. If they have been prescribed Epi-Pens, please bring 2 pens and Benedryl to school with them. One will be kept with the teacher and the other will be kept with me.
We also need an Allergy Action Plan filled out by your child's physician on file for emergencies. (Please see bottom of page for printable version)
We have signs posted on the teachers doors to alert visitors and other parents of the allergy. A letter is also sent home at the beginning of the year to every child's parent in their classroom asking them not to bring in foods containing the allergen.
Please provide the teacher with alternative snacks for the child. Frequently food is brought in from a parent that has unknown ingredients. It would be great to have an alternative food to give to the allergic child in this incidence.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions of concerns.
